The ticket to return to China was the next day. I had a total of A$125 to finance my immediate needs. I knew that I needed much more. This last evening I had been invited to attend an AoG Women’s meeting. Of course I accepted.
Financial Challenge
After the worship and before the guest speaker there was an offering. I got $5 out of my purse. The leader of the meeting got up and prayed for the offering. As I was listening I heard that familiar soft voice, “$5 is not enough.”
I argued, “I don’t have very much.” The only reply I got was, “$5 is not enough.”
Financial Obedience
I opened my purse, put back the $5 and looked for $10. No $10! Smallest was $20. I pulled out the note. The collection box came to me. I placed the money in with the words, “Lord, I hope you know what you are doing, because I don’t.” I settled to hear the speaker.
Suddenly I heard a sentence: “This sister cannot go back to her work for the Lord, because she can’t raise the finance.” No, she was not talking about me, it was another lady. The speaker went on with the theme, ‘We are so rich here, we need to support God’s work.’
Financial Provision
Then she made a bold move. She said that there was enough money in the auditorium to finance all God wanted done. Buckets were placed at the front and people were invited to supply the need. Then these words, “Is there anyone else here who is working overseas for the Lord, and who is financially stressed?” Five more ladies, including myself, stepped up.
Final result. I went home that night with an extra A$1149.60 which financed my immediate needs upon my return to China.
Lesson
Luke 8:38 says: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” I can see why I was asked to step out and give more than $5, at a very stressful time. Yet, obedience gave me all I needed. It wasn’t easy, but it was a lesson I have never forgotten. ‘Don’t be afraid to give when God tells you to give. He just wants room to pour in what he has to give to you.’
