Remembering!

When the speaker mentioned the name, Kathryn Kuhlman, my mind went back to 1975, and everything else he said was seen on the background of my memories.

I had been a committed Christian for only a few months, most of which was taken up in reading books about Christians.  I hungered to know how others managed this life.  Some of the books that I read were from Kathryn Kuhlman, and it was very exciting to learn what God was doing for his people.

Desire
One day I came to my friends’ home and stated that when I was going to return to Australia in twelve months time, I would go via the USA so that I would be able to attend a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting.  With that they showed me a brochure for a conference in Jerusalem in May of that year, and one of the speakers would be Kathryn Kuhlman.

I immediately booked in and I went with a group of people from Germany to Isreal.  It was May, 1975.  Now, if you don’t know about Kathryn Kuhlman, then you need to check it out.  Suffice here to say that her presentations were quite theatrical.  I found that closing my eyes and just listening to what she said, was the most beneficial thing to do.

Tel Aviv Meeting
As part of the Conference there was one open meeting in Tel Aviv.  It is the only meeting where Kathryn Kuhlman ever allowed reporters in.  They had the proviso, that anything they wrote was to glorify Jesus, not herself.  Next morning there wasn’t ANYTHING in the newspapers.

However, during that meeting at one point Ms Kuhlman asked one person from every nation represented at the meeting, to come join her on the stage.  I went forward for Australia.

The Power
Approaching the stage there was a presence of the Almighty, so strong, that walking became difficult.  Once on the stage, and standing there in a long line all of us holding hands, it was obvious that everyone was affected.  It was impossible to stand still.  We were all shaking due to the very strong presence of God on the stage.  I have never felt anything like it ever again.

Lesson
I liken this to when Moses met with God and the people then could see God’s glory on his face (Exodus 34:33-35).  We were all in the presence of the Almighty.  This is an experience I will never forget.  And it shows that everyone has a different way of coming before God, and he accepts it.  He is only interested in the condition of our hearts.
