What Would You do if Your Newborn Was Given a Death Sentence?

“Your baby has a heart condition with which she cannot live for more than 24 hours.  I could operate on her.  I have done four of such operations, three babies died during the operations and one died a few hours after the operation.  What would you like me to do?”  Hearing the specialist say that, what would you do?

Back in the 1980’s, a young couple were confronted with this situation.  Even thinking about it, it is impossible to imagine how you would feel.  However, this couple were firm believers, and so they prayed.

Church Community
Then they contacted the Pastor of their church.  He came to see them immediately, and after praying together, he asked them, “What do you want God to do for you?”  The couple were very clear, “We want God to show the doctor what to do to save our baby.”

As they gave consent for the operation, the church called the whole prayer team into action.  The phones rang hot as the word was passed around, and so in a very short time heaven was being bombarded.

The Result
Three hours later an ecstatic specialist walked into the parents room and announced that their baby would be OK.  “When I opened up her chest I instantly saw what I had to do.  I don’t know why I never saw it before,” he declared.

Worldwide Benefit
Of course the parents were delighted and four years later when I learned the story, the little girl was like any other little girl.  However, there were wide ranging results worldwide.  The specialist wrote his experience up in the appropriate medical journal.  From that time on, babies born with this heart condition, anywhere in the world, are no longer condemned to death.

Lesson
This was not a miracle of healing.  This was a miracle of the specialist being given knowledge.  “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, … Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matt.17:20)  It is important that we realise that this NOTHING really means nothing.  However, we too often limit God to our understanding.  These parents realised that God could direct the specialist.
