It is many years ago, and he came new to our church. However, he knew a lot of people, more than I did. It wasn’t until I heard his story that I understood all the interest.
He had been part of the church a long time ago. And his story will resonate with many people. As a young man he had thought that there was a lot more interesting stuff in the world that his faith interfered with. So he had decided to drop church.
Wayward
When a person forsakes their church and friends there, they soon drop any semblance of faith and so reading and praying goes by the way too. There is no help to go to when the world throws you a curve ball, as they say.
It took more than 20 years. He still lived within walking distance of the church. Then he decided that it was time to go back, and that is when I first met him. But what he had to say was more interesting than the story itself.
Testimony
His main testimony is one that we might well take notice of. “In all those years, I can honestly say, there was not a single day that God did not call me back to him.” That is what it means to belong to God. His love is relentless. He really leaves the NINETY NINE while he pursues the ONE. The only question is, will the “lost” one heed it before life is ended?
Lesson
As children of God, we should remember “In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” (Matt.18:14) He will pursue us as long as we live, as any parent would.
