Returning home meant having to dispose of quite a lot of goods of all kinds. Besides furniture and kitchen goods, there was also all my teaching materials. It all transpired in a way I could not have imagined.
I made it known among friends and those that I thought might be interested, that I was selling a lot of things. The aim was to at least pay for my air fare. There was a lot of interest. Then the blow.
Sudden Turn Around
One morning in prayer I distinctly realised that I had to give away all my things and depend on what God would do. I was immediately reminded of the time that I had dedicated all this to the Lord, and for my use only. This put me in the situation that I had to pay back some people who had already bought, mainly teaching materials. This included a library of more than 100 English children’s books that I had accumulated over the years.
No sooner had I accomplished this task than I received a message from a student friend of many years ago. He felt God telling him to pay for my airline ticket to go home. I had not yet gotten my ticket so he gave me internet sites where I could find cheap tickets.
I had to reply that I was not after a ‘cheap’ ticket as the long 12 hour flight sitting in a squashed economy seat, after all the work involved in moving, would not be the best way to go. I had been thinking of Economy Plus. He instantly wrote back that whatever ticket, he would pay for it. And he did.
Packing and clearing was going well, when a very dear friend came to me and handed me the money she thought it would cost to send my unaccompanied goods home. This was amazing. She was a retired lady on a pension, but she still insisted. I was humbled by her generosity.
Now I had to stop and thank God. He had prompted people to gift me the necessary finance which amounted to almost double what I thought I would have been able to raise by selling my goods. It was absolutely amazing. It had me thanking and praising God again. And so, seven years later I still stand in Awe.
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) I am totally convinced that I would not have had enough money if I had not given away my belongings when told to do so. Once I let go, God had the room to move in and tell people to give. He never fails his word.
